Hi, I’m Zara.

I’m a reporter, editor and fact-checker with three years’ experience delivering accurate, accountability-focused journalism in daily newsrooms.

On this site, you can learn more about me, read clips from my portfolio and get in touch.

My Background

I’m a dual citizen who grew up in rural England. I graduated from Brown University in 2022 with A.B. degrees in history and classics. There, I interned with The Boston Globe’s Rhode Island bureau, was editor in chief of a campus satire publication, edited and contributed to the Brown Classical Journal, and wrote a screenplay produced by Brown Motion Pictures.

I cut my teeth as a reporter with a year at the Morning Sentinel, one of the Maine Trust for Local News’ local dailies. I wrote on issues spanning local government, business, crime, courts, education and more as a general assignment reporter and was frequently cross-published in the Portland Press Herald and Lewiston Sun Journal.

I then covered housing and real estate statewide for about two years at the Bangor Daily News. My stories examined Maine’s affordability crisis from every angle. One of my stories even spurred an arrest, indictment and $2.5 judgement against a fraudulent home contractor.

I’m now pursuing my master’s degree at Northwestern University’s Medill School, where I report for the D.C.-based Investigative Lab and concentrate in data journalism. There, I intern with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s investigative team, serve as an editing fellow and have been published in ProPublica.

I’m currently looking for reporting or editorial freelance, internship, fellowship or part-time opportunities for summer 2026, and for full-time or fellowship opportunities in the fall.
